Continental Mountain King Protection 2.2 / 2.4
The Mountain King has been completely overhauled for 2011. Those who desire a bit more meat for particularly difficult sections choose the Mountain King. Improving on what was excellent soft/loose grip, and now delivering much better all-around performance.
By beefing-up the shoulder lugs, and creating more void toward the center lugs - corning has become telepathic. The revised tread design now performs much better in harder, dryer conditions and Black Chili Compound delivers excellent wet performance as well.
The 2.4"-version is recommend to be the new king for tourers, enduro riders and All Mountain riders.The 2.2 Mountain King is the perfect chose for those not requiring larger volume, but demanding aggressive traction with relatively low rolling resistance and lighter weight. It does well virtually everywhere - in cross country races, marathons, or all day trail rides. It is slightly lighter than its bigger brother without sacrificing its outstanding qualities.
UST-Tubeless
- Tubeless tires by Continental work with both UST and Rigida / Nagesti rims and wheels.
- Tire and rim form an airtight chamber. A tube is not necessary and pinchflats not possible anymore.
- In comparison to the system with tube the tire pressure can be chosen lower. The comfort of the ride increases.
- At a lower tire pressure the tire deflects more. The contact patch of the tire increases and the tread adapts to the ground better. Tubeless tires allow decreased air pressure and therefor deliver more traction.
- The airtight layer on the inside of the casing can be repaired with ordinary patches just like a tube
