The Polyax aluminum nipples from Sapim are equipped with a rounded head that functions like a ball joint. This ensures optimal alignment of the spokes and nipples. Aluminum has been chosen to provide higher performance due to its low weight, high strength, and corrosion resistance. Sapim uses the highest grade of aluminum, 7075-T6, for these nipples.
Additionally, the Polyax nipples receive a special coating on the thread and surface that significantly reduces friction between the spoke and nipple as well as between the rim and nipple. This results in a simplified and clean wheel build, as well as a smoother and more effective centering process.
